چکیده
Soft growing robots have received considerable attention because of their unique locomotion. However, the use a single material for manufacturing causes numerous problems, each part robot requires different characteristics. This study attempts to solve this fundamental problem from perspective, rather than integrating independent solutions. A hyperelastic is proposed building soft robot. Several problems associated with conventional are addressed using that offers required properties robot, while maintaining its intrinsic advantages. Two features materials, bulging and shape-locking, introduced. The advantages these two offer investigated analyzed. utilizing features, can easily achieve shape locking, small tail tension, easy retraction, uniform circular inner channel, wrinkle-free curve formation, without additional hardware. initial concept steering mechanisms demonstrated prototype.

On Stress Anlysis for a Hyperelastic Material
Performing a finite element analysis (FEA) on a hyperelastic material is difficult due to nonlinearity, large deformation, and material instability. This paper provides a brief review of the hyperelastic theory and discusses several important issues that should be addressed when using ANSYS. Analysis on a fatigue specimen is used as an example of one of our product development challenges upon w...
متن کاملUsing explosions to power a soft robot.
This manuscript describes the use of explosions to power a soft robot—one composed solely of organic elastomers (e.g., silicones). The robot has three pneumatic actuators (pneu-nets) in a tripedal configuration. Explosion of a stoichiometric mixture of methane and oxygen within the microchannels making up the actuators produced hot gas that rapidly inflated the pneu-nets, and caused the robot t...
متن کاملSymmetric Hyperbolic Equations of Motion for a Hyperelastic Material
We offer an alternate derivation for the symmetric-hyperbolic formulation of the equations of motion for a hyperelastic material with polyconvex stored energy. The derivation makes it clear that the expanded system is equivalent, for weak solutions, to the original system. We consider motions with variable as well as constant temperature. In addition, we present equivalent Eulerian equations of...
متن کاملConstitutive modeling of fiber composites with a soft hyperelastic matrix
This paper presents an experimental and numerical study of unidirectional carbon fiber composites with a silicone matrix, loaded transversally to the fibers. The experiments show nonlinear behavior with significant strain softening under cyclic loading. The numerical study uses a plane-strain finite element continuum model of the composite material in which the fiber distribution is based on ex...
متن کاملGrowing Neural Networks using Soft Competitive Learning
This paper gives an overview of some classical Growing Neural Networks (GNN) using soft competitive learning. In soft competitive learning each input signal is characterized by adapting in addition to the winner also some other neurons of the network. The GNN is also called the ANN with incremental learning. The artificial neural networks (ANN) mapping capability depends on the number of layers...
